Young-adult novelist E. Lockhart begins a new year of craft talks for Hugo House's Word Works: Writers on Writing series on September 18, 2016.

Judith van Praag's insight:
Saturday last I drove down to Olympia from Seattle, for The Great Summer Critique-Nic. Notwithstanding the heat, seated in the shade of trees of Evergreen College's Red Square we felt the temperature rise to 95 ºF, the critique session was ultimately cool. So cool that I signed up and paid membership fees that evening. I'm pleased to say, that twelve years after the last get-together of Bonny Becker's Crit Group —I'd been a member for seven years chronicling my childhood in the Netherland, writing about children, but not for children— I'm going to turn my stories into upper MG and YA books. Our late and beloved crit group member Jo Nelson would've been tickled, and perhaps she is, after all, as Phil Red Eagle said at her memorial in 2000, "She's only in the other room." Here's to all people dead and alive who make me want to remember them in print.
The next SCBWI Western Washington event I plan to attend is a talk by Young-Adult novelist E. Lockhart on September 18 at 7 p.m. at The Frye Art Museum on First Hill in Seattle.
